Now with TAB! - Jesus Hold My Hand - Performance The banjo in this video belongs to an old friend and I had it for the day to do a setup and shot a quick video of it for him. I wound up sharing it with the world on my channel and promptly got close to a bajillion requests for a tutorial.
Problem was, I had no clue what I even played. It was totally improvised and I never thought much about doing the tune as a lesson - thought it might make a pretty good one if I ever think up a reasonable arrangement that would translate well to my format.
Honestly though, I've felt a bit guilty about not doing the lesson, but not guilty enough to actually dive into it - especially the arrangement I did. I did, however, sit down today and do my best to transcribe what I played.
Gee whiz, what I play is often weirder that I think it is. It took me a couple of hours to finally get everything on paper and then getting it all sorted out to go into Tabledit.
I'm always telling y'all things like: "find your own path" - "play like YOU". Well, dang it, I figured I could just play this again "like me". Guess what. I struggled a bit trying to figure out what in the heck I was doing - especially near the end where I push the boundaries of melody syncopation. I had to listen over and over and for a bit I thought I had goofed up the timing - I didn't. I could count it out and the words fit right over the top. I just had to stop trying to count and analyze and just play. Once I did that, it all fell into place again.
Anyhoo... here's the TAB. Don't look for a tutorial of this anytime soon, but feel free to use YouTube's slow down feature and try to get a glimpse of my playing style. It's all me... and boy it gets weird in spots.
